Using HIPSYS and focussing on six facets of behaviour which are critical to excellence in teamwork, each person has now developed a personal action plan for incorporation into their performance management and development plan.

From the perceptions of boss, peer, customer, subordinate and self, HIPSYS has facilitated a sharing of insights between boss and subordinate and provided an excellent platform for performance development planning and goal sharing.

Feedback to date has been very positive with a strong consensus to review the changes after twelve months using the same process.

When I first saw HIPSYS I was impressed. I thought I could learn something useful from it and I did So then I had all my managers go through it too. They each found it to be as enlightening and constructive an exercise as I had.

Unlike other systems I have seen, HIPSYS helped us through a non-threatening exploration of many issues without putting labels on us. It was encouraging in that it reinforced our strengths, and challenging in highlighting areas in which each of us needed to improve.

It was particularly helpful in measuring the important but hard-to-measure things like attitudes, trust, communications as well as some of the more tangible things in leadership like delegation, problem solving, decision making, safety.

One of HIPSYS’ great assets is its flexibility. We could tailor it to draw out any issues we thought were relevant to our particular roles and culture. We have now developed a special application for a senior staff specialist who has no subordinates but has to interface with us as clients.

I believe everyone should do a HIPSYS. It reveals the blind spots and adds value to the individual, the team and the organisation. It is a powerful and impressive tool like no other I have ever seen.

I must admit that my initial reaction to the product you demonstrated to me a few weeks ago was it’s just another "psychological toy".

You will recall that our team had been subjected to an unfortunate experience with a similar product in the past. Unlike other systems I have seen, HIPSYS manages to focus on a wide range of management style facets.

The analysis clearly shows the relationship between self image, projected image and perceived image.

In doing so it has given me a constructive set of issues which I can use to modify my style and thus increase my team performance.

The system is both revealing and challenging and yet avoids any conflict in what is obviously a sensitive area.

I have used HIPSYS for a range of development, performance feedback and culture interventions over several years.   The applications have included :

I have found that the process HIPSYS uses is extremely useful in building team relationships and providing specific development action plans for those who participate.   It permits a base line to be established and can clearly show measurable improvements in areas that are usually very hard to measure.

I have constructively used HIPSYS on several occasions now.   Firstly, I found it a useful tool to assess perceptions of my own strengths and improvement opportunities.   I had been appointed to a senior management role for the first time in my career.   The feedback identified for me the importance of empathy and relationships as the foundation for the group's technical work.   With this understanding, I have developed deeper trust-based relationships with my subordinates, peers and supervisors.

On another occasion, the Senior Chemist used the tool to provide 360 degree behavioural feedback to all laboratory personnel  from bosses, peers, customers and operators.   The feedback was the catalyst to more openly address behaviours which were not consistent with our values.

I have found HIPSYS to be a flexible, easy-to-use and powerful tool to provide broad-based, low-bias feedback on behaviours and performance.   It can be a positive change catalyst as the light bulb goes on after receiving feedback.
